Farang (in Thai: ฝรั่ง), sometimes pronounced falang, is the generic Thai word for a white foreigner. It is closely related to the Khmer word Barang. Blacks will be occasionally referred to as farang dam (black farang, in Thai: ฝรั่งดำ). While generally farang is a neutral word, it can be used as an insult depending on its context. For instance, the expression "farang ta nam khao" (in Thai: ฝรั่งตาน้ำข้าว, which literally means farang with rice-milk-colored iris) would be considered an insult.

Maybe I'm not really a gringo, but that's what they sometimes call me anyway, american or not, but I'm definitely a farang. Or was.

Why?

People keep telling me that I should start some sort of travel diary or something, maybe a blog, huh? And I keep telling them I don't have the time or the energy. Well, I finally had some time to kill, but whether I have the energy or not we'll just have to see. It's much more fun in the sun. OK?

Also, since some of the assumed readers do not speak swedish and the thai/mexican keyboards lack a certain numbers of letters it had to be in english, most likely bad english...I'm kind of out of practice.
